This is Sunday's Tennis Recap

The 2022 Infosys Hall of Fame Open began under sunny skies on Sunday, with eight singles qualifying matches contested on the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s front lawn courts.

Fans were welcomed to kick off the final week of the ATP Tour’s grass court season and partake in the new Fan Zone activities. The Infosys Hall of Fame Open launches a new era for the tournament bringing in enhanced statistical insights.

Fresh off his best performance yet at a Grand Slam, Britain’s Liam Broady was the qualifying draw’s first victor, dispatching American Evan King in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The win was Broady’s fourth in his past six matches on grass after a third-round appearance at Wimbledon last week, where he defeated the No. 12 seed Diego Schwartzman.

Broady will meet American Brandon Holt, son of Hall of Famer Tracy Austin, who is competing in his second career ATP Tour qualifying draw. Holt took to Newport’s grass courts for the first time and scored a comeback win over Gijs Brouwer, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Qualifying wild card Will Blumberg, a defending Infosys Hall of Fame Open doubles champion, prevailed in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Ramkumar Ramanathan. Next up for Blumberg is fellow American Noah Rubin, who upset the qualifying draw’s top seed Ernesto Escobedo in straight sets, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.

In other Sunday matches, Chris Eubanks and Mirza Basic prevailed in straight sets, with Eubanks defeating Pedja Krstin 6-0, 6-2 and Basic winning 6-3, 6-4 against Jason Jung. Mitchell Krueger came from behind to beat Evan Zhu 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, and in the tournament’s first deciding tiebreak, Gage Brymer outlasted Tung-Lin Wu 2-6, 6-3. 7-6 (7-3).

The final round of qualifying, along with four main draw singles matches and three doubles matches, are set to begin at 11 a.m. on Monday morning, with gates opening at 10 a.m. Highlighting the main draw matches for the day will be Wimbledon fourth round surprise Jason Kubler, who will meet fellow Australian Jordan Thompson in the second match of the day, and American wild card Jack Sock, who will play Romania’s Radu Albot in the final match.
